Vehicle Registration Fee Exemption and Exemption of Payment of Road Licence

KNPD makes recommendations to the Minister of Finance so that persons with disability or their relatives may be exempted from paying registration tax or road licence. (PDF)

Exemption of Payment of Registration Tax

Persons eligible for this service are:

  • Persons with disability who conform with the Social Security Act 1987 and its amendments
  • Persons with disability who can only drive automatic transmission and/or modified vehicles, as certified by professionals appointed by KNPD
  • Parents/Carers of disabled persons who need to stay in their wheelchair or buggy when travelling in a vehicle. People over 65 years of age who do not drive are not eligible to benefit from the exemption on manual transmission cars.

Exemption of Payment of Road Licence

Persons eligible for this service are:

  • Persons with disability as defined by the 1987 Social Security Act and its amendments and who drive their own vehicle
  • Persons with disability as defined by the 1987 Social Security Act and its amendments and who have a car registered in their name with the Land Transport Directorate, Transport Malta
  • Persons in possession of a van that is wheelchair accessible
